Aspen general information

Comfortable and reliable shuttle buses make the four hour trip from Denver International Airport five times a day, but if you’re feeling lucky it’s possible to book regional flights into the conveniently situated Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, just 5km from Aspen and 10km from Snowmass. However, when the weather turns this tiny airport can close altogether, so you may find yourself making your way by bus regardless.

Another option is to transfer from one of the US’s major airports, such as New York Laguardia or JFK, Chicago, Houston, Miami or L.A and change for Eagle County Regional Airport. Although it’s a little further out than Aspen-Pitkin, it is better connected and less likely to close due to bad weather. Just 112km from Aspen, there are frequent shuttle buses that run the 90 minute journey into Aspen town.

British Airways flies direct from London Heathrow to Denver in around 10 hours, for around £300 each way.

As with most things in Aspen, you’ll pay top dollar for lift passes, with rates working out from between $35 and $90 a day, depending on the season. Peak season runs from mid-February to the end of March while early season, in late November and early December, is comparatively cheap.  But, there are bargains to be had. For cheaper rates, book in advance online or pay for groups of 20 people or more for discounts of up to 35 per cent.
