Chamonix general information

The international airport at Geneva is the closest to Chamonix. Travellers can make the 80km trip with a rental car or with the SAT bus company, which also goes to Courmeyeur. Turin Airport is connected to Chamonix via the SAVDA bus company. Travellers can get from Lyon Airport to Chamonix by train.

The E25-A40 Autoroute Blanche motorway connects Chamonix to European motorway networks. The road over the Col des Montets puts Switzerland just 16kms away. The tunnel under Mont Blanc puts Courmeyeur in Italy less than 12kms away.

French high-speed TGV rail services depart several Paris stations for regional cities and during the season, the TGV goes to Saint Gervais Les Bain, from where the Mont Blanc Express runs to Chamonix and on to the Swiss border.

Chamonix Le Pass provides access to the Brévent-Flégère. Access to Grand Montets excludes the top cable-car, above 2,765m. This pass can be upgraded to Mont Blanc Unlimited on payment of an extra fee. Mont Blanc Unlimited covers all the main ski areas as well as Courmeyeur and Verbier. The Les Houches pass does what it says on it – allows only for access to the Les Houches lifts. This is a good option for beginners. Ski Pass Mont Blanc is fairly comprehensive but is only suited to those with access to a car as many of the areas covered cannot be reached on public transport.
