Accommodation in Alpe d’Huez

With more hotels than most high French ski resorts and a massive number of apartments, Alpe d’Huez  has a good choice of accommodation, even in peak season. The town divides into districts, with charming Vielle Alpe the oldest, quietest and most traditional. Des Jeux is downtown, home to most shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife, with Bergers the most modern with its fair share of bars, eateries and clubs. A picturesque alternative is the original mountain village of Huez, overlooking the Sarenne Gorge and boasting tiny alleyways, traditional alpine buildings, shops and bars. Lodgings are found across the town and in Huez.

The Club Med complex comes recommended for its ski-in ski-out location, huge pool, spa and a number of slope-side, catered chalets with saunas and hot tubs, which are operated by ski holiday specialists. One of the two chalet hotels on the slopes offers steam rooms, saunas and an outdoor hot tub. Most apartments are linked to holiday firms, and many second-home owners here are happy to rent out their properties to independent travellers during their absence. The huge choice of hotels includes Au Chamois d’Or, known for its excellent restaurant, and Grandes Rousses, which is close to the lifts and offers a great atmosphere and a good live music.
