Après-ski in Mayrhofen

Après-ski in Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen’s reputation as a party town is on the rise since the introduction of the now famous Snowbombing music festival, held every year at the end of March for a week, and featuring live music, skiing contests, club nights and visits by international bands. Thousands of British, Dutch and German fans descend on the resort for the street parties and other riotous fun. During the rest of the season, après-ski starts on Penken Mountain and works its way down to the Sporthotel Strasse’s Ice Bar in the town centre and other bars in the vicinity. Good-natured fun is had by all, and heaven help those looking for a quiet night in.

For those with enough energy to dance all night, the Strasse’s Speak Easy Arena rocks till 04:00 and several more of the hotel’s six bars rave on as well. Other late-night venues include Brucke’s Schlussel Alm and Apropos, well-known for its great music, and for a lively ambience without the rowdiness of many other venues, Coup & More is well worth a visit. For a quieter evening out, the Passage and Neue Post Bar are good but, for the ultimate après-ski experience, thrill-seekers should head back up the mountain to the White Lounge ice-hotel to party till late and sleep it off overnight in an igloo!
