Après ski in Lech

For a relatively small town that likes to nurture its image of a luxury resort, the après ski here is surprisingly vibrant – though it’s still much more sophisticated than many other Austrian resorts, including nearby St Anton.

Although there is little in the way of pubs and bars outside the numerous four-star hotels, there are enough options to satisfy après skiers after a day on the piste and to keep them partying into the small hours.

The evening tends to start up in Oberlech, where – with the skis fresh off their feet – aspiring partygoers can enjoy a hot drink or a glass of bubbly at Hotel Montana. As the night progresses the action moves to the main street, as the cafés serve rum-laced tea (jagatee). Tannbergerhof is one of the most popular bars in town with nightly outdoor parties and enough good gluhwein to keep customers warm throughout the chilly Austrian evenings.

The three other clubs in the town are s’Pfefferkorndl, Scotch Club and the achingly cool Fux, a night club-cum-jazz bar with a cigar bar attached, meaning partying is on offer until dawn, for those who have the stamina!
