Après-ski in Ischgl

Ischgl advertises itself as the après-ski destination in Europe, if not the world, and does its best every season to deliver. It’s not so much night-life as all-day-and-nightlife, beginning in the slope-side bars as early as breakfast and ending in the same bars the following morning via drinking, table dancing, flirting star-spotting and more drinking. In Ischgl, falling over is not confined to the slopes! Those looking for a more sedate and quiet skiing holiday might prefer to give the ‘Ibiza of the Alps’ a miss.

Having said that, it is possible to enjoy après-ski here without getting totally wasted or maxing the card, as there are pleasant hideaways serving good food in civilised surroundings tucked away both on the slopes and in the village as well as on the Swiss side of the mountain. The Marmott on Alp Trida serves traditional food in calm surroundings and the Alpenhause has both table and self-service. In Finbatal, quieter Bodenalpe rates ‘simple but good’, with huge, value portions while the Kiwi Bar close to the church serves good cocktails in a more peaceful environment. Even if strippers, sex and singles bars aren’t your thing, you can still enjoy yourself in Ischgl.
