Accommodation in Axamer Lizum

Accommodation in Axamer Lizum

The single four-star hotel nearest the base station is the closest thing to a resort hotel in the ski area, set in a plain modern building close to the lifts and nursery slopes. However, a choice of traditional Tyrolean chalets, inns, pensions and apartments are found in the picturesque villages of Axam and Gotzens. Most are family-owned and run, and many situated on the outskirts of the villages give a more traditional and homely Tyrolean experience enjoyed by many regular visitors. Romantic horse-drawn sleigh and dog-sled rides, a skating rink, tobogganing and even hiking are all available in the valley, and several inns feature swimming pools and spas giving a variety of treatments. Skiers should note no hotels or other accommodation in the villages offer online booking as yet.

All lodgings here are close to the slopes, with ski buses leaving at regular intervals for the base station. The only downsides to staying in the valley rather than in nearby Innsbruck are that rates here are noticeably dearer, the nightlife is more sedate and there is less to see and do when visitors need a break from the slopes. Innsbruck, of course, has a wide range of hotels and other lodgings at prices to suit all pockets from around €50 and is a stunningly lovely heritage city home to historic architectural delights. Package deals can lower the costs of a ski trip as they are linked with low-cost airlines. Ski buses run regularly from Innsbruck’s major hotels and a central hub to all the surrounding ski areas including Axamer Lizum.
