North Cyprus Car Hire

North Cyprus Car Hire

North Cyprus car hire is super easy and probably offers the best deals you will find in any holiday destination in the Mediterranean.   Because North Cyprus is so small, it’s very easy to drive around the island and take in all the sights in a day or so before retreating to a beach for a couple of days to top up your tan.  There’s also a lot to be said for car hire if you’ve decided to stay in a villa up in the hills, or in a more remote area of the island where you’re likely to need to make trips out for groceries or to get to the beach.  And car hire is also a great option if you’ve decided to go for a multi destination trip to North Cyprus and don’t want to shell out for the cost of a taxi for you and all your luggage in between your hotels.

When it comes to the formalities of North Cyprus car hire, this couldn’t be easier.  All you need to hire a car is a current driving licence and your passport. Like the UK, the local traffic circulates on the left and the traffic signs are international, with good dual carriageways connections between major towns.  The speed limit in most urban areas is 30 miles per hour.

Car hire companies in North Cyprus are very well established and many have been around since the late 1970s. The global car hire brands like Hertz, National and Avis aren’t well represented in the north so local companies are your best bet. If you’re a member with a global car hire firm you can rent cars from the major Southern Cyprus airports (Larnarca and Paphos) but just check you are insured to drive in the north.  Local companies are reliable though and they are used to dealing with tourists and many have websites so it’s a smooth process from booking the car in advance, to picking it up when you arrive on the island.  You can normally pick up the car from wherever your arrival point happens to be, whether it’s Ercan airport, Kyrenia or Famagusta, or even Larnaca in the south of the island if you’re planning to drive to the north.  In terms of leaving the car at the end of the trip, there’s the same range of options.

When it comes to prices, the North Cyprus car hire costs are some of the most competitive around.  For a small run around like a Fiat Panda, you can expect to pay around £20 per day for 3-7 days in high season and £19 per day for 8 days plus.  In low season this drops to £19 and £17.  If you’re looking for something a bit more luxurious, you can rent a Suzuki soft top for £23 per day in high season for 3 – 7 days, £21 for 8 plus days and £21 and £19 in low season.  Many companies also provide 24-hour roadside assistance so make sure you read the small print to see what you’re entitled to.

There are a wide range of car rental companies in North Cyprus now and the more you shop around the more likely you are to find the best deal.  Some offer daily rental prices from just £10 and others will let you rent the kind of car you wished you owned!  Either way, it’s a good way to make your travelling easier and see plenty of the area whilst you’re at it.  Some well known companies include Sun Rent A Car, Pacific Rent A Car, Cyprus Car and Rent A Car North Cyprus.
