Year Round Fun and Sun Holidays in Lanzarote
One of the most popular vacation destinations in the Canary Islands, Lanzarote, like her sister islands, is the result of volcanic eruptions over hundreds of years. Both below the surface of the surrounding water and above, adventurous tourists may explore volcanic caves and tunnels. In fact, the island is home to the longest volcanic tunnel in the world. The Atlantida Tunnel is more than four miles long and includes both La Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua and attracts a good number of people who are on their Lanzarote holidays.
La Cueva de los Verdes is a natural cave that was created by the eruption of La Corona. The cave is open to tourists and is often used as a concert hall. Jesus Soto, a Venezuelan artist, created a system of ambient lighting to capture the splendour of the cave walls in 1964. The lighting was carefully installed so the natural magnificence of the cave was disturbed as little as possibe by people on their holidays in Lanzarote.
Jameos del Agua was formed by the same eruption and lava flow that created La Cueva de los Verdes. As the surface of the lava solidified, lava continued to flow beneath. Gasses trapped beneath the surface eventually caused the surface to collapse. What could have been considered a disaster or simply a work of nature is now a bar and restaurant and is a good attraction for those on their Lanzarote holidays.
Popular Lanzarote Holiday Resorts
The island is home to several resorts with several excellent Lanzarote hotels that promise to meet the year-round needs of tourists from around the world. Beautiful brown or white sand beaches offer holidaymakers great opportunities for swimming, diving and sunbathing. Looking at a Lanzarote map all the resorts offer a variety of services and activities for young and old alike during a Lanzarote holiday. The year-round warm climate makes it the perfect place for golf and diving, any time.
One of the most popular and attractive resorts for the island is Costa Teguise, and often last minute deals and cheap holiday in Lanzarote offers are for here. As with any resort, you expect beautiful beaches and a wide variety services and attractions. Costa Teguise goes a step above with gardens and green areas with native plants that enhance the feeling of peace and tranquility, but it’s easy to reach the airport and Lanzarote flights – the golf course is one of the many attractions. From nearly every point of view the golfer may be exposed to breathtaking views of the volcanic landscape and the Atlantic Ocean and don’t be put off if you see the area promoted for cheap holidays in Lanzarote as it is a good area.
Until recent years, Playa Blanca has been a small fishing village on the southernmost area of the island. Because of this, Playa Blanca is quieter and a bit more private for Lanzarote holidays than Costa Teguise and is a popular area for Lanzarote villa holidays. Don’t let Playa Blanca’s smaller size fool you if you’re considering it – there are plenty of beaches, shopping and family oriented activities. Though the nightlife isn’t as busy as other resorts on the island, it does still offer a good nightlife.
Puerto del Carmen
As the main area for holidays in Lanzarote, including an area favoured by the big travel companies who offer package deals, Puerto del Carmen is the largest resort, and the busiest. It has three large beaches and accommodation for up to 30,000 guests with about 4 miles of tourist attractions. Many restaurants and bars line the streets and offer a wide variety of foods for every meal. Due to Puerto del Carmen’s popularity, restaurants range from international to native Mediterranean. The night life in Puerto del Carmen is busier than that of the smaller resorts. Several clubs are open until 6am and while they might be missing the great Lanzarote weather at that time of the day, offering even the most avid party animal determined to enjoy his or her time on the island and all the better if you can get one of the cheap Lanzarote holidays often on offer with the main tour operators.
