The Lowdown on the Ibiza 2012 Summer Party Scene

The Lowdown on the Ibiza 2012 Summer Party Scene

Heading to Ibiza this summer? Looking to party hard (or soft if you prefer)? Well you’ll be glad to know there’s over 500 parties scheduled this summer so whether you’re looking to glam it up with the beautiful people at Pacha or get down and dirty with the hardcore crowd at DC-10 you’re sure to find something to tempt you to stay out past your bedtime.

Let’s take a look at some highlights of what’s coming up (and down) on the white isles party scene this summer.

Ushuaia, So Hot Right Now!

Just the usual clientele at Ushuaia!

In 2011 Ushuaia burst onto the Ibiza club scene with a fresh format which pulled in the crowds and saw it play host to the annual Radio 1 weekend- not bad for the new kids on the block. In 2012 that means Ushuaia is the place to be seen and also to see some top acts. Fat Boy Slim kicking off the second day of the big 2 day opening party. Calvin Harris is doing a one off gig (28th August), house music god Sasha has a Friday night residency and the insatiably popular Swedish House Mafia bring 9 Wednesday night parties to the open air venue throughout the height of the season.

Everywhere I turn I see David Guetta

You might feel a bit like this looking through the clubbing calendar this season – the greedy French bugger has only bagged himself 2 residencies at 2 of Ibiza’s best venues – you can catch his F*** Me I’m Famous parties Monday nights at Ushuaia and Thursdays at Pacha. At €70 for a ticket at either venue you might be more likely to come out saying F*** Me I’m Broke, but there’s no denying this guy gets a crowd going and these are already looking likely to be sell out nights.

Festival frenzy

Elton John

An Elton John trance set? Thats got to be worth a listen...

And the award for worst named festival of the summer goes to… “Ibiza 123 festival”! What the 123 ‘Rocktonic’ festival lacks in, well, a decent name, it more than makes up for in the big names they’ve got hitting the stage at Ibiza’s biggest attempt at a summer festival to date. Sting, Lenny Kravitz and in what seems likely to become a brilliant, if completely bizarre Ibiza moment, Elton John playing alongside Australian dance duo Pnau (aka Empire of the Sun).

There’s also a whole host of top DJ’s from the world of electronic music scheduled to play at the 3 day event which is taking place on a bit of deserted wasteland behind the Sunset Strip in San Antonio. How the organisers plan to cram over 20,000 ravers, a fun fair and Elton John’s ego into what is essentially a large car park remains to be seen but there’s no doubt this could be the event of the summer. It takes place on 1-3rd July and a 3 day ticket costs €167 euros, which given the price of entry to normal club nights in Ibiza is actually a bit of a bargain.

Fresh meat

There’s plenty about this years calendar which will look familiar to regular frequenters of the Ibiza discotheques. Pete Tong is back in his Friday night slot at Pacha, PVD is still raising the roof at Amnesia on Thursday nights and Judge Jules still holds his crown as king of San Antonio with Judgement Sundays returning to Eden for its 13th year. But there’s also plenty of fresh meat on the Ibiza scene this year. We talked about Ushuaia already but another up-and-comer who cut their Ibiza teeth last summer and returns this year with a busy party schedule is Manchester based Sankeys. With nights like Garlands, Fuse London and Mulletover all bringing their own distinctive electronic styles to the discerning clubbers of Playa D’en Bossa via a slightly un-orderly but truly exciting schedule of 2012 parties.

Get on board one of Ibizas boat parties

Pukka Up Ibiza Boat Party

Pukka Up and party on the high seas!

Boat parties in Ibiza have a bit of a bad rep thanks to the 18-30’s crowd but, lets be honest, if loud music, excessive drinking and beachwear – at sea – doesn’t sound like your idea of a party then maybe you’re on the wrong island! Ibiza has a few choices when it comes to boat parties – Pukka Up is the biggest name in the getting drunk at sea business but there’s also the Yes Boat Party and the Garlands Boat Party Sunday nights (leaves from Linkers bar on San An beachfront)

Clearly we’re only scratching the surface here – Ibiza’s party scene is truly massive and diverse these days so there’s something for everyone (well maybe not everyone, best to leave your Gran at home). What’s more OMG! Holidays have got 7 night package holiday deals to Ibiza from £150 – of course you’ll need the same again for half a lager when you get there but we can’t do much about that I’m afraid!
